Fellowship Project
Dr. Jiang Fangting will spend four months (September – December 2027) at The Cleveland Museum of Art (“CMA”) (Cleveland, U.S.A.), where she will study the CMA’s collection of Yuan and Ming dynasty Jiangnan literati paintings and calligraphy that integrate poetry, calligraphy, and painting. During her residency, she will also conduct in-depth research on the museum’s curatorial, conservation, and educational practices, while exploring opportunities for collaboration between the Hong Kong Palace Museum and the CMA through exhibitions and academic programmes. She also hopes to facilitate a sustained network of scholarly exchange with museums in the United States.
Biography
Dr. Jiang Fangting specialises in the history of Chinese painting and calligraphy, with a particular emphasis on Jiangnan literati painting and calligraphy of the Yuan and Ming dynasties. She earned her PhD from the Department of Fine Arts at The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2017 and subsequently served as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the university’s Art Museum. During her Post-doctoral Fellowship, she co-curated the exhibition Transcending Transience: Art and Culture of Late Ming Jiangnan and was one of the lead editors of its catalogue.. Dr. Jiang is currently an Associate Curator at the Hong Kong Palace Museum, where she has curated exhibitions including “Heavenly Horses—Masterpieces from the Palace Museum”, “The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: Stories Untold—Figure Paintings of the Ming Dynasty from the Palace Museum”, and “The Making of Masterpieces—Chinese Painting and Calligraphy from the Palace Museum”.
