Through the use of mobile devices and other digital tools, The British Museum has developed playful and exciting ways to engage young audiences with culture and collections. Interactive Museum workshops in London and Virtual Visits delivered nationwide have enabled visitors to engage with The British Museum like never before. The Museum’s digital learning programme is award-winning and continually develops as the technology evolves. Join us at the online lecture to learn about The British Museum’s partnership with Samsung and the creative process of developing experiences for children to explore the collection and discover the world’s history and cultures.

Ms. Sarah Saunders
Head of Learning & National Partnerships | The British Museum

Sarah is responsible for the Museum’s learning programmes, national programmes and touring exhibitions, interpretation, volunteering, the Portable Antiquities Scheme and treasure. Sarah was trained as a silversmith and jeweller in Birmingham and has been leading art and design courses prior to her first museum job at the V&A creating events for students and working on the interpretation for the William and Judith Bollinger Jewellery Gallery. In 2006 she worked at National Museums Scotland and subsequently National Galleries of Scotland where she was Deputy Head of Education. From 2013-2018 she worked on the development of V&A Dundee, Scotland’s first design museum, engaging communities locally and nationally prior to opening. Sarah has a passion for digital learning and for making Museums more inclusive and inspiring.

Mr. Sam Adamson
Education Manager of Samsung Digital – Learning Program | The British Museum

Sam manages a team that develops resources and delivers events for schools, families and other young visitors. These enable visitors to explore The British Museum’s collection and the world’s history in exciting and innovative ways using digital technology. Prior to his position at The British Museum, Sam has been delivering schools and family programmes and engaged in exhibition related events at the Vale and Downland Museum in Oxfordshire as Museum Assistant and later at the Postal Museum in London. In 2021 he joined The British Museum as a Learning Producer for the Samsung Digital Learning Programme, delivering online “Virtual Visits” while the Museum was closed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Sam is passionate about using technology to make learning more accessible, and how it creates new ways for people to engage with museums.
