Programme

Q:
What are the areas funded by the Programme?
A:
Chinese art history, curatorship, archaeology and conservation. Applicants who are interested in museum education or exhibition design are also eligible to apply.

Q:
What are the areas NOT funded by the Programme?
A:
The Programme does NOT fund degree studies or research trips.

Q:
Is there any restrictions regarding the age and nationality of applicants?
A:
No. Preference will be given to young scholars and/or young museum professionals.

Q:
What is the meaning of “outside of my own national borders” in regard to prospective hosting institution?
A:
This means that the prospective hosting institution should be outside of the country (or region) that you are currently residing.

Q:
Can I apply for an attachment of less than 4 months or more than one year?
A:
No.

How can I receive an application form?
A:
Application forms can be downloaded from our website.

Q:
How can I find the list of participating institutions?
A:
The list of participating institutions is available from our website.

Q:
How can I contact a participating institution?
A:
You can obtain contact information for participating institutions by writing to our Project Co-ordinator at enquiries@jsleefellowship.org.

Q:
Can I contact more than one institution before submitting my application?
A:
Yes. However, to reduce administrative workload of participating institutions, we recommend that applicants approach no more than 3 institutions.

Q:
What kinds of documents should I provide to my prospective hosting institution?
A:
Applicants should contact the liaison persons of the prospective hosting institutions to explain the purpose of your attachment, provide a proposal and personal CV for their consideration.

Q:
Do I need to get a confirmation letter from the institution before submitting the application?
A:
No. The institution will send their comments to us directly.

Q:
In my application, can I apply to go to more than one institution for attachment?
A:
No. You can only go to one institution for your attachment.

Q:
Beside the application form, what other documents should I provide with my application?
A:
Beside the application form, two recommendations are required from two difference referees. The referees should submit the confidential recommendation forms directly to us by post before the application deadline. You may enclose your CV and a detailed proposal in your application if necessary.

Q:
Do you accept applications electronically?
A:
No.

Awards

Q:
How many awards will be given each year?
A:
There is no fixed number of awardees. The Fellowship committee will select what it believes to be the most worthy applicants.

Q:
What is the amount typically given for grants?
A:
As the period and the destination of each attachment varies, there is no “typical” amount.

Q:
Which areas do the grants cover?
A:
The fellowship grants cover round-trip airfare, fee for visa application, medical insurance, accommodation and living expenses during the period of the attachment. In case the need arise, additional subsidies could be made to fellows on a case by case basis.
